United Airlines has its own similar program. United Airlines opened its Aviate Academy in Goodyear, Arizona, last December. This was the first major airline-owned flight school in the U.S. Other majors, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Southwest Airlines, have set up branded training programs affiliated with dozens of independent flight schools across the country. Regional airlines, such as Mesa Air Group, Republic Airlines, and SkyWest, have also adopted that formula.
Last month several companies in an effort to recruit pilots offered a 50% increase in pay for new captains and 30% increase in pay for new first officers while offering a $20,000 signing bonus. The carrier is also paying pilots an additional $1,800 per month which can either be banked or applied to travel for those who do not live in their base city. This is great news for those seeking aviation employment.
